    Dear Southwest Parents:

Summer vacation provides time for rest and relaxation. I hope our students are rejuvenated and ready for the start of a new year at Southwest Magnet High School and Law Academy.

As the beginning of the new school year approaches, I look forward to the first day of school. Opening day offers excitement and promise for educators and students alike. When our students return to school on August 1, we look forward to doing our very best to make a positive difference in their lives. We will use our array of talents to work together towards establishing a rich and stimulating learning environment for the students of Southwest.
This year, as in the past, we must concentrate on the processes that spur continuing advancement: evaluating what we have, determining what we can do to improve, and identifying what we need to make those improvements. There will be changes made in regard to curriculum and for the benefit of our overall student achievement and school operation.
Please know that my goal is for us to continue to work together for the benefit of the students of Southwest Magnet High School. I am very interested in hearing from you, our parents, regarding your ideas and suggestions on ways to continue to make improvements.  We are recommitting ourselves to serving the students of this school as we prepare for another school year.
As we guide our students in the 21st century, we readily admit that their world is different from the one we knew when we were their age. At the same time, however, their world is the same in significant ways. By that I mean that they, too, have parents and grandparents who want only the best for them, who will do all within their power to assure that their children are happy, healthy, and safe. We understand that you have entrusted them to our care and we take that responsibility seriously.
I look forward to the 2016-2017 school year and envision a year filled with excitement and many reasons to celebrate. Together, we can help our students achieve greatness.

    Sincerely,

    Dexter Martin, Principal
