School Counselors
Bibb County School District's Professional School Counselors are......
Certified educators who must hold a master's degree (or higher) in school counseling from a regionally accredited institution. Professional School Counselors must have a passing score on the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) school counselor content assessment and a passing score on the GACE Basic Assessment test in math, reading and writing. Professional School Counselors must complete coursework in the following: Human Growth & Development, Counseling Theories, Individual Counseling, Group Counseling, Social & Cultural Foundations, Testing / Appraisal, Research & Program Evaluation and Career Development. In addition to this course work, Professional School Counselors must complete a supervised practicum and a supervised internship. Completing these requirements certifies an individual to work in a K-12 setting. As with all BCSD employees, Professional School Counselors must also complete a background check. There are 64 Professional School Counselors who serve the district's 39 schools.
