
Chief Financial Officer Sharon Roberts, CPA, brings more than 40 years of experience in the accounting profession, having worked in both the private higher education sector and the K-12 public school sector. She is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed to practice in the state of Georgia and a proud graduate of Southwest High School and Mercer University, both located in Macon, Georgia.
Before joining the Bibb County School District in 1997, Roberts worked for 18 years with Mercer University as Internal Auditor and Director of Grants and Contracts Accounting. She then worked for 18 years with the Bibb County School District in the positions of Director of Accounting, Interim Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Director of Accounting before joining the Birmingham City Schools as their Chief Financial Officer. As the Chief Financial Officer of Birmingham City Schools, she managed the school’s finances with an annual budget in excess of $300 million. In 2019, Roberts returned to Georgia and the Bibb County School District as Executive Director of Accounting, where she oversaw the payroll, accounts payable, general and budgetary accounting, and grant accounting functions. On July 1, 2021, she became Chief Financial Officer for the District, overseeing the accounting and procurement departments, with a District budget in excess of $351 million.
Roberts is a member of Turning Point at Mable White Baptist Church. She has volunteered and served local organizations both in Georgia and Alabama. Her professional affiliations have included the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, the Government Finance Officers Association, the Georgia Government Finance Officers Association, the Alabama Government Finance Officers Association, the Georgia Association of School Business Officials, the Alabama Association of Business Officials, the Southeastern Association of School Business Officials, the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the International Association of Internal Auditors.
Roberts is married to Owen Roberts and has one son who is a graduate of the Bibb County School District and of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She is the proud grandmother of two grandsons and one granddaughter.
