ESPLOST

The Power of a Penny

On November 4, 2025, the voters of Bibb County approved a renewal of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) by more than 73 percent to help continue making improvements to our school district for another 5 years.

This is the sixth ESPLOST campaign by the Bibb County School District (BCSD), with previous campaigns in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020.  A study by the Georgia Tech Research Institute found that more than 70 percent of sales tax funds are collected from non-Bibb County residents.

Previous ESPLOST campaigns have allowed the District to fund new schools such as Springdale Elementary (2024), Appling Middle (2020), J. R. Lewis Elementary (2020), Northeast High (2019), Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary (2015), Southwest High (2009), Ingram-Pye Elementary (2009), Central High (2009), Northwoods Academy (2009), Ballard-Hudson Middle (2007), and more; facility improvements and upgrades; athletic improvements and upgrades; technology improvements and upgrades; security enhancements; and more

ESPLOST Goals

  • Although some projects are school-specific, the majority of the projects will involve and improve facilities and services districtwide.
  • More efficient facilities and vehicles reduce maintenance and operations costs.
  • Security improvements increase and enhance safety on our campuses.
  • State-of-the-art technology devices and software provide each learner with the tools needed in today’s learning environments.
  • All BCSD students will benefit from ESPLOST projects.
