Advanced Content

* Differs in course content, teaching strategies, and process skills when compared to comparable grade levels.

College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP)

Bibb county offers a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses through the high schools which enables students to earn college credit while still in high school. These courses vary by school based on need, student interest, and enrollment.

Definition of a Gifted Student

Georgia describes a gifted student as one who demonstrates a high degree of intellectual and/or creative ability or abilities, exhibits an exceptionally high degree of motivation, and/or excels in specific academic fields, and who need special instruction and/or special ancillary services to achieve at levels commensurate with his or her abilities. The abilities manifest in a collection of traits, aptitudes and behaviors that, when taken together, are indicative of gifted potential.

Qualifying for Gifted

Referral- Teachers, counselors, parents or guardians, peers, administrators, self and others may refer students for consideration for the gifted program. Each year, during a specified two-week period, teachers shall observe students looking for the Traits, Attitudes, and Behaviors (TABs) of a gifted child. Any child who demonstrates in classroom performance five of the ten identified TABs shall be considered. Though the Milestones test is not used to establish eligibility for placement, it may be considered in the referral process.

Testing- Bibb County follows the state guidelines for testing of gifted students. Students are tested in four categories: mental ability, achievement, creativity, and motivation.

Placement- Students must earn a qualifying score in 3 of 4 categories: mental ability, achievement, creativity and motivation. Once the student is deemed eleigible parents must sign a consent form for placement.
