"Strength of Character...College Ready...Career Ready" Through Science Education
Student Achievement One Mind at a Time
Welcome to the Bibb County School District Science Department. This is an exciting time in science as we make changes in our classrooms to help ALL students be successful. This page is a resource for teachers, parents, and students to access information that can support science teaching and learning .
The science department is committed to its motto: SEE. DO. EXPERIENCE. Students should SEE science modeled by their teachers that will be evident through quality instruction. Students should DO science to be better engaged through relevant, standard-aligned performance tasks that give students an opportunity to perform or display their level of understanding. Lastly, students should EXPERIENCE science to increase student retention through rich, authentic, and challenging activities that allow students to read, speak, creatively write, discuss, and debate/defend within their classes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel to contact me. I look forward to working to ensure students demonstrate strength of character and are college or career ready.
One thing I have learned in a long life: that all our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike and yet it is the most precious thing we have.
~ Albert Einstein (1879-1955) physicist
My mother made me a scientist without ever intending to. Every other Jewish mother in Brooklyn would ask her child after school, "So? Did you learn anything today?" But not my mother. "Izzy," she would say, "did you ask a good question today?" That difference - asking good questions - made me become a scientist.
~Isidor Isaac Rabi (1898 - 1988), physicist
